Research group for Computational Economics and Finance
In our research we merge computational economics with data science to study complex economic and financial networks. Our current topics are:
Diversity & Corporate Boards: Modeling diversity dynamics within interorganizational networks and analyzing firm’s governance, profitability, and sustainability
Economic Dependencies & Supply Chains: Analyzing the resilience and sustainability of global trade and material flows, as well as corporate vulnerabilities across supply networks
Financial Markets: Examining systemic risks, asset pricing, and the comovement/dependencies within and across global asset markets
Dr. habil. Matthias Raddant
Head of the research group “Computational Economics and Finance”
Matthias Raddant leads the Computational Economics and Finance Group at the IDea_lab at the University of Graz. He holds a doctoral degree in quantitative economics from Kiel University. He completed a habilitation in economics in 2022. Matthias’s research focuses on economic and financial networks. This includes research on dependencies and risks in financial markets, supply chains and supply security, as well as interorganizational networks and networks of corporate boards.

Daniel Cardenas Sanchez, MSc
Doctoral researcher
Daniel Cárdenas Sánchez is a doctoral student and data scientist interested in public policy and corporate governance. His research examines how firms comply with diversity regulations and how the career trajectories that lead to board seats differ by gender and origin. To investigate these questions, he combines network analysis and machine learning techniques to map the structural forces shaping who reaches positions of power in organizations.
