The Digital Community Lab
The Digital Community Lab is a part of IDea_Lab that acts as a link between the Vice-Rectorate for Digitalisation and the Vice-Rectorate for Studies and Teaching.
We accompany the digital transformation in dialogue with society.
The central question is how digital technologies are changing society. Together with partners from both within and outside academia, we are developing formats that address these developments in a critical, creative and participatory manner.
The Digital Community Lab coordinates the Micro-Degree ‘AI and Society’.
As part of this supplementary qualification programme, students from a range of disciplines acquire skills relating to the ethical, economic, legal and educational aspects in artificial intelligence. To this end, the programme brings together the expertise of lecturers from various disciplines and combines theoretical perspectives with case studies, practical examples and project-based work on AI in different social contexts.
Together with our partners, we organise the annual Technology Impact Summit (TIS), creating a platform where researchers, students, companies, start-ups and representatives from politics and public administration can come together. The focus is on current technological developments, their societal impact and forward-looking solutions.
Digital communities both within and outside the university are connected and supported in the development of joint projects. This creates an open, learning environment in which knowledge is shared, critically reflected upon and further developed.
Issues relating to AI, digitalisation and social change are brought to the fore at the University of Graz. Through events, discussion forums and collaborations, we ensure these topics remain prominent within the university and the region, and facilitate an accessible, understandable dialogue that incorporates diverse perspectives.
As a platform for exchange, education and collaboration, the Digital Community Lab thus plays an active role in shaping the societal dimension of digital transformation at the University of Graz.
