Education and Artificial Intelligence

AI is shaping the learning worlds of tomorrow

The potential of artificial intelligence extends across the entire spectrum of the education system. At the macro level, for example, AI facilitates organizational and planning processes or supports educational institutions with evaluations. In the context of teaching, i.e. at the meso level, AI enables innovative approaches to performance measurement and individual support for learners, among other things. At the micro level, i.e. in the direct learning process, AI opens up numerous new possibilities. In this regard, tailor-made teaching methods and supporting systems that suggest possible learning strategies or generate content training are particularly noteworthy.

The use of AI in education brings new challenges and raises a number of questions, such as To what extent is it possible for artificial intelligence to shape future educational landscapes and curricula more optimally? How will or must testing in educational institutions change through the use of AI? Where can artificial intelligence support teachers in performing their tasks? To what extent does the use of AI in interactive learning environments lead to an increase in learner motivation? Can AI help to promote individual learning paths at different educational levels? Do AI-based tutoring systems promote self-directed learning and individual support inside and outside the classroom?

Answering such questions proves to be challenging, especially since the education system is highly characterized by tradition. The key to successfully integrating AI into education lies in the balance between preserving proven pedagogical principles and introducing innovative practices enabled by AI. Working with and promoting future skills can offer solutions.

In order to generate practice-relevant research results, interdisciplinary and institutional cooperation beyond education providers is essential.
